My Story.
In 2022, I lost my wonderful mum very suddenly to pancreatic cancer, just 2 weeks after her diagnosis.
Over time, I took comfort from the care we had been able to give her at home and the knowledge that there was no doubt how loved she had felt. The memories we had created as a family over the years are forever precious.
Days after losing mum, my uncle lost his own battle with the same cruel disease. His story was very different in that he lived alone and been diagnosed and started treatment a few months earlier. At the time we put a care box together for him, having researched all the things that may help to ease the symptoms he was facing. I still chuckle at the thought of him wearing the fluffy socks!
From these lives lived, Gifted Smile is born. The comfort from the help that can be given at such a challenging time, felt like something that could be replicated for others.
Not everyone may have a loved one nearby, and even if you have, knowing what to do or what is needed can be really tricky. Our Hug Boxes do what they say on the tin. Whether given in person or sent through the post, the recipient will not only benefit from its carefully curated contents, but just as importantly, feel comforted in knowing they are thought of and loved.
Helping create precious memories feels right too. Circumstances don't always allow this for everyone. Illness can impose financial constraints, often affecting both the patient and their caregiver. Medical matters can take over which means escaping the reality for a short while does not always take precedence. So, this is where we step in - to provide some good times to share and a little comfort when needed the most.
Gifted Smile, an organisation supporting people with late stage cancer, is not sad or depressing as you may easily assume, in fact it is the exact opposite of that. It brings relief, fun, and laughter, offering not just curated gifts but also a supportive understanding during uncertain times.
We have some fantastic supporters who share our vision and between us, we try to shine a little ray of light in a small way that has a big impact.
Our goal is to positively enrich as many lives as possible, for those battling cancer and their loved ones. The feedback we receive shows our gestures make a significant difference, which remains our biggest incentive to keep raising funds.
